Degloving is a severe type of injury in which the top layers of the skin are torn from muscle, bone, or connective tissue. Also known as avulsion, this can be an extremely debilitating injury, requiring immediate skin-grafting surgery and other types of medical procedures. Degloving cuts off the blood supply to the skin, sometimes exposing the muscle or bone.
